Colregs mini course

Colregs, also known as the Collision Regulations, are the set of rules for governing the behaviour of vessels on the water.

The rules highlighted in this mini course are perfect for those people who are learning to drive powerboats for the first time.

In this course you will learn:

  • Where to drive in narrow channels
  • When to safely overtake another boat
  • How to avoid a high speed head on impact
  • How to avoid a deadly side impact
  • What lights you should have on a power boat

Finally, we will answer the question: What do the different sound signals mean?

After completing this Colregs course you will have a good understanding of the rules required to pass a RYA powerboat level 2 course and get an International Certificate of Competence (ICC).

There is a free final Colregs course quiz so you can confirm what you have learned.

There are 41 rules and four annexes and these are all covered in detail in the IRPCS Masterclass. If you want to take it further you can find the masterclass here:

It’s vital that we understand these rules when we are at sea so as to safely avoid dangerous situations. We can then enjoy our time on the water.
